Walk Description

A walk which starts by crossing the Langsett reservoir dam before going across farmland to the base of the Midhope reservoir dam. The route passes through woodland above the reservoir.

The route then climbs onto open moorland, climbing steadily to the summit at Pike Lowe. From Pike Lowe the route continues to the pack-horse route of Cut Gate path. The route follows the path down to Langsett reservoir before returning to Langsett barn through woodland.

The moorland section is exposed and boggy. The path across the moor is not clear at points, however the route can be followed as the objective of Pike Lowe is obvious.

  • Grade – A long walk over open moorland. Some paths are not clear. The moorland section is boggy, even in good weather. Pike Lowe is high and exposed to the weather. Appropriate equipment is required for this walk.
  • Start – Langsett Barn
  • Public transport – Bus20A from Barnsley and Stocksbridge / Deepcar stops at Wagon and Horses Inn, Langsett.
  • Refreshments – The Waggon and Horses Inn, Bank View Café, Langsett
  • Public Toilets – Langsett Barn.
